Cuban salsa bands complete record-length
concert
HAVANA, March 13 (Reuter) - Cuban salsa bands completed four days and four nights of
non-stop music before dawn on Thursday, claiming a record for the world's longest salsa
concert.
Havana's Salon Rosado dance club in Havana was packed on Wednesday night for the end of
the 100-hour concert that began on Saturday night and involved more than 200 bands and
smaller groups and a total of about 1,800 musicians and technicians.
Local media estimated a total of 40,000 people attended the marathon music fest at the
open-air venue. Cuba's most popular bands took part, including Los Van
Van, NG La Banda, Manolín el Medico de la
Salsa and Pauto y su Elite.
The concert was organised by a record company and the Cuban Music Institute to break a
30-hour record for non-stop salsa set by a Barcelona club last year.
